Firefighters' Neurodegenerative Disorders Research Fund

Join the fight to help protect the people who protect us.

On any given day a firefighter could be called upon to save your life, today you can help save and protect theirs.

Firefighters are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at a rate 10 times higher than the general public.

As emergency responders, they are exposed to heavy metals and toxins on a regular basis.

Scientists now believe this increased exposure puts them at risk for developing Parkinson’s disease as well as other neurodegenerative diseases like ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) and Alzheimer’s. Despite this strong link, very little research has been done to understand how or why firefighters are more prone to these diseases.

The Firefighters’ Neurodegenerative Disorders Research Fund is a fundraising effort led by a former firefighter whose own Parkinson’s diagnosis led him to become an advocate for others like him. Donations contributed to the fund will address the research gap by supporting basic research of neurodegenerative disorders at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Join his fight and help protect our heroes by making a gift today.
