Richard S. Hansell Resident Education Fund
When Dr. Richard S. “Dick” Hansell retired in December 2014, we knew we were losing more than a faculty member—he’s been a valued alumnus, colleague, trusted mentor, gifted teacher, and friend in the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for almost 30 years.
Known for his common sense, Dick served as a sounding board for all three chairmen under whom he served. During his long tenure at the Indiana University School of Medicine he played many roles, among them Residency Director and mentor to residents and junior faculty, in addition to being a well-respected teacher and advocate for the department.
To thank Dr. Hansell for his many contributions we are establishing the Richard S. Hansell Resident Education Fund in his honor. Funds could be used, for example, to introduce our residents through mentored attendance at meetings of the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and other specialty and subspecialty societies which form our professional community, promoting Dick’s wish for them to stay involved in these organizations throughout their careers. We can think of no better way to honor him than to create something lasting in his name that will further the profession to which he dedicated himself so passionately.
Whether you worked alongside him, learned his “pearls for practice,” or were mentored by him, we hope you will join us in paying tribute to Dr. Hansell by contributing generously to this fund.
Your gift will be a tangible and meaningful way to express appreciation for the impact Dr. Hansell had on his profession and educational opportunities for residents.
